Each year a contest is held for the official Loc Appreciation Day logo of the year. Then a storefront opens on zazzle.com where you can purchase T-shirts, bags, mugs and lots of other merchandise featuring the winning Loc Appreciation Day logo.
A word from this year’s winner:
From a young age, I have always possessed a sincere love for art, despite lacking intensive formal training, I learned a few things here and there in art electives from grade school and during high school. While, I particularly enjoyed working with acrylic paint, I developed a fondness for using Prismacolor pencils as well. Upon entering college, while art remained in my heart and in the back of my mind, I focused on pursing my higher education. Obtaining my Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Florida, I have been a licensed pharmacist for the last 7 years. Nudging at me first gently, my love of art has now become a persistent knock on the forefront of my mind. In 2010, I finally gained the courage to step away from society’s standards of beauty and allow my hair to return to it’s natural state by growing locs. Confident of my potential, my desire to explore the possibilities that may accompany my artistic abilities has heightened. Wanting to share my artistic works with the world, I am hopeful that they may evoke discussion, emotion and appreciation for my creativity. Partnering with 2 of my dearest friends,“Naturalovin” was birthed in an effort to express the necessity to love oneself from the innermost parts of one’s being and allow such to radiate outward. One’s face and particularly their eyes are capable of expressing a myriad of emotions. Too often we miss the big picture for scrutinizing minute details–however– observing things closer may be enticing and thought provoking. Take a moment, envision, reflect, be introspective and Naturalovin unapologetically!!!
Blessings now and always, Sharie Monique
